How to get started with your GeoMap

PLAN GeoMaps use the Google maps platform to present new Sales Leads because it's easy to use at home, in the office or when mobile. Because we use Google maps, in order to access your GeoMap or the Members Portal on the website, each user must have a Google account assigned to the email address they use to log in . It is really easy to set this up, just follow the instructions below:

How to access your GeoMap

When you have subscribed for the service, use an email address and password of your choice to log in to your GeoMap or to sign in to the Members Portal on the website.

You need a Google account!

To sign in to your GeoMap or to access the Project Leads through the Members Portal, the email address you use as your log in must have a Google account attached to it .

How to create a Google account

If you don't have one already, assign a Google account to your email address, or set up a new gmail address, here: www.google.com/accounts/NewAccount

What happens next?

We can now set you up using the email address you have chosen as your log in, and you are up and running!

Can I use Microsoft Edge, Apple Safari and Google Chrome browsers?

Yes you can use all three, with Google Chrome as the recommended browser to use to view your GeoMaps.

If you use Microsoft Edge and have a problem viewing, simply turn off "Enable Tracking Prevention" within your Edge browser settings (which tends to set by default) and you should then be able to view your GeoMap and the project locations.

If you use an Apple Mac or the Safari browser and have a problem viewing, simply turn off the "Cross Site Tracking" within your browser privacy settings (which tends to set by default) and you should then be able to view your GeoMap and the project locations.

Are PLAN GeoMaps GDPR compliant?

The General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into effect as EU legislation in May 2018 to govern how data about individuals must be processed and stored. Post Brexit, the UK continues to use the GDPR to ensure that data is kept secure and used responsibly.

PLAN GeoMaps are GDPR compliant. Information is drawn from a range of public sources and whilst this is still categorised as personal data, it can be used within the current legislative framework for business-to-business sales and marketing purposes.

Data is provided to our customers based on the 'legitimate interest' of enhancing marketing efficiencies for buyers and sellers within construction and related markets. Legitimate interest is one of the six lawful grounds for processing data under the GDPR. In a business-to-business context, opt-in consent is not required for PLAN to share this data with its customers and in any event, is not realistic or practical.

As the ICO states : “Legitimate interest is likely to be most appropriate where you use people’s data in ways they would reasonably expect and which have a minimal privacy impact, or where there is a compelling justification for the processing” . For business-to-business purposes, where customers are utilising PLAN data to identify companies and individuals that are likely to have a need for their products and services, this is appropriate.

Finally under the GDPR, once data has been passed from our system, our customer becomes the data controller and therefore must ensure that their collection, use, storage and retention of data complies with the GDPR. This is the case no matter where our customers source their sales and marketing data from.
